La navigazione a motore sul lago è permessa oltre 300 m di distanza dalla riva, ad eccezione del promontorio di Sirmione, dei golfi di Salò e Manerba e dell'Isola di Garda dove è consentita oltre i 150 m. La parte Trentina del lago è invece interdetta alla navigazione a motore salvo alcune deroghe.
La velocità massima deve essere inferiore ai 20 nodi di giorno, 5 nodi di notte, 3 nodi nei porti ed in fascia costiera protetta.
È possibile praticare lo sport dello sci nautico ad una distanza di 500 m dalla costa; in questo caso la velocità massima non deve essere superiore a 25 nodi.
In ogni caso è d'obbligo informarsi presso l'autorità competente per verificare ulteriori obblighi e/o limitazioni dovute a particolari ordinanze e si raccomanda la massima prudenza per la presenza di scogli, bagnanti, surfisti e di altre unità da diporto.
